Someone , a former tenant I think, has left a large flat screen TV in a communal walkway of our complex.
I don't mind taking it up to the skip, but I thought I'd read something that you have to pay to dump, is that right?

TVs fall into the category of WEEE. As such, when buying a new electrical or electronic device, the vending shop is obliged to take back the old one for disposal through specified means. It is illegal to dump a TV and can result in a hefty fine. Many dumps will not accept WEEE material because of the strict regulations.

That is complete guff. All the Green Points in Paphos accept TVs and other electrical appliances.

It is not guff. What about the dumps that are not organised into Green Points?

They tend to be illegal and on the edges of villages down an old lane. If you think anybody is going to inspect what you dump there you should lay off the crack pipe.
Besides, anything electrical that doesn't make it to a green point tends to be left beside the shared green bins, and normally vanishes before the authorities pick it up. I know a chap in a truck drives past the ones in Polemi every so often looking for unwanted bits of electronics.
