Interesting video published yesterday...

By the way: in CY, from March on, if you expose your body for app 20 minutes to the sun (swim dress), gives you enough vitamin D for the day. This short period of 20 minutes ends in October when the sun is too low on the horizon. Of course no sun protection cream and no shower afterwards for at least 5 hours. At what time? In early spring/autumn one can check it the following way: If your own shade is ca. the same length than your height, then the 20 minutes exposure are enough, otherwise some minutes longer. Also people already with suntan need more minutes...

I thought it was common knowledge that sunshine was the best way for people to receive Vit. D? Far better than tablets. But it must be difficult for people in northern climes to get anywhere near the amount of Vit D they need to stay healthy.
I read yesterday that people with Vit D deficiency fare much worse with Covid.
Personally, can't wait for those long, hot, sweltering days of summer to return; hate this cold and wet
It is also common knowledge that exposure too long to sun will rise the danger for skin cancer, specially in the Cyprus sun. That's why I allowed myself to make the comment that 20 minutes are enough to get the necessary amount of vitamin d....

If I remember correctly, that should give you enough for more than a whole week.

Sunlight also boosts levels of testosterone (in men), the feel-good hormone serotonin and nitric oxide, which decreases blood pressure and heart rate. No wonder it makes us feel good!

I once worked with a Nigerian for many years & coming back to the office after a holiday in Paphos he said "how much did that cost you to try to look like me"
From a tourists point of view how could I not love enjoying beautiful weather even if smothered in factor 50 & sitting under a sunshade

It is a common misconception that black people don't get sunburn. My Father was once stationed at an RAF Base in Gan. I remember him telling me, when I said something about black people not getting sunburn, that the black guys who came over with him all thought that too. They went out onto the beach without a care in the world and all got burnt. I guess if your friend actually came from Nigeria, as opposed to being born in the UK of Nigerian descent, he would be used to the hot sun.
The point is, it wasn't the colour of the skin that determined liklihood of getting burned, rather than what levels of sun the skin was used to.
In a similar fashion, when we first holidayed here I had to slap on the suncream every time I went out. These days I only put any on if I am going swimming in the sea.

Interesting video about making Vit D from mushrooms.... wonder if anyone will try it. I'm a bit sceptical as I have seen lots of wacky videos claiming miracle health cures...

In this interesting article are also mushrooms mentioned, which already contain obviously Vit D which could help fighting Covid-19....
