Mesogi Ave (Polis Road) Roadworks.

Rosemary wanted to go to Party Mania today to stock up with cards, so we had to negotiate the Polis Road roadworks, just as we have to do if we want to go to Lidl. Roadworks now extended almost to the bottom, where we managed to turn right and, with a bit of local knowledge, make our way across to the road which runs parallel with Mesogi Avenue. We came out at the bike shop and turned left to get to Party Mania.
The good news is, that you can get out onto Mesogi Avenue, Polis bound, at Lidl, the new roundabout. It is now a longer diversion going to Lidl and much shorter on the way back.

A lot of that area is now on Google Street View so you can plan your route in advance.

You're welcome. :)

If you turn into the car park of Gaeden of Eden and then turn left you can get onto the road system that allows access to both Party Mania and Lidl.

So Hellados Avenue is now open to two-way traffic from the Garden of Eden 2 going north, but is closed to northbound traffic from there down to the Papantoniou junction? Have I understood that correctly?

It’s only open for two way traffic from Paps for a short run and then again from Lidl going north

It's a nightmare, and the traffic jams at busy times of the day will be horrendous! What makes it even worse is that any street used as a temporary through way will soon have the hazard of parked cars, making narrow roads worse. Take care! I'll try to shop at normally off peak times..or in Kato Paphos.

Will this be replacing the crazy Viofos traffic lights?

Too early to tell! But the roundabout should certainly make the exit from Lidl onto the Polis Rd/ Ellados Ave both easier and hopefully safer! It's not finished yet, though partially open to traffic as described. The opp side of this roundabout has a very narrow lane towards PFO at present. I have been told this will be widened by cutting a chunk out of the paved area, so when finished the edge of the new road will be about a metre from the wall of the MOT testing centre.... time will tell.

JB.
Don't see how the traffic lights near the former Viofos can go as they are at the intersection of two main and very busy roads. But who knows at this stage. There might be room there for yet another roundabout! But there is also a new roundabout scheduled for the traffic lights near Paps Supermarket I've been told...

Motorists will be driving around in circles in due course!

If the road is to be widened where the MOT station is then one metre for a pavement is not very much.
Re a roundabout at Paps lower down the road, I did think that was what would be happening when they knocked down two corner properties.

I doubt it, it’s about 50+ metres further down the hill.

No, the correct distance between Lidl roundabout and Viofos traffic crossing is >190 m, look at that image from Dominic's camera
