I read an article in an English daily a few weeks ago about how much do you drink ( the alcohol type ).It said do you drink more than what you think or less than what you think. The article suggested that you keep a daily log on your consumption.I.E.a beer is one drink,a spirit is one drink a wine ( a glass not a bottle ) is one drink and so on.
I have done this for four weeks now and to my delight i drink LESS than what i thought averaging 2.06 drinks daily.Check it out you may be suprised ( either way of course. :)

Right now nothing it's dry January,

As I have got older I prefer white wine as a few beers gets hard work, but overall probably too much wine. 8-)

During Dry January I revert to Medium sweet wine. I used to drink far too much and initially, one of the attractions of buying here was the drinking culture and the cheap booze. Suffered from too much booze and fags health wise and my heart bypass five years ago was a big wake up call. No ciggies now for 5 years and very little alcohol. Plus plenty of exercise.

Alcohol just doesn't agree with me so that was easy to answer.

Now, if you were talking about how much water on a daily basis that would be very interesting!

When I am out on my adventures I often drive past bars full of British immigrants boozing the day away. Makes me wonder why they bothered moving over here.

This link might be useful:

https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/alcohol-su ... -too-much/

Regularly drinking more than 14 units of alcohol a week risks damaging your health.

The recommended weekly limit of 14 units is equivalent to 6 pints of average-strength beer or 10 small glasses of low-strength wine.

New evidence around the health harms from regular drinking have emerged in recent years.

There's now a better understanding of the link between drinking and some illnesses, including a range of cancers.

The previously held position that some level of alcohol was good for the heart has been revised.

It's now thought that the evidence on a protective effect from moderate drinking is less strong than previously thought.

___________

It goes on, but I don't want to depress you. :)

They’d probably do the same in their motherland but will get more for their money here. Carlsberg in the villages is usually around €2.50 but the same back in Blighty would be around the £3.50 / £4.00 mark.

The NHS advice differs from site to site:

https://www.leicestershospitals.nhs.uk/ ... -too-much/

This says it's up to 28 units a week for men, 21 for women.

I used to drink one to one and a half glasses of red wine a day with my evening meal. Nowadays, the average is close to 0, although we occasionally open a bottle with an exceptionally good meal and it lasts for two or two and a half nights for the pair of us. Happily, our helper does not help us drink! :-) :-) :-)

Why don't they just buy cans and drink at home? It would be even cheaper then.

That's an old article. Mind you, the article I posted was last reviewed in 2019, so who can say?

I've been recommended to drink Less but I've looked everywhere for it, supermarkets, bars and clubs etc but can't find a beer called Less anywhere. It's thirsty work looking for it I can tell you.

I very rarely drink alcohol, always happy to be designated driver if we go out and drive whoever we are out with. I used to have a BUPA medical with work each year which included a “how much do you drink” section. Much to the amusement of my wife, one year the GP you have the check up with reviewed my paperwork and told me I should drink more to give my liver something to do 😂😂

Have often been told by doctors that drinking a glass of red wine a day would be beneficial.
However, I cannot even stand the smell of it, so we'll never know.

Working all my life in the construction Industry, heavy drinking was part of the culture. Funnily I was never drawn into it though must admit I enjoy a few beers but nothing excessive.

Interesting comment Jim. I did an apprenticeship at GEC in Coventry & they had a social club with bar. I remember seeing pints lined up ready for the serious drinkers at lunchtime. Since found out that was the norm in most large companies in the area including the likes of the Coventry Telegraph & Birmingham Mail. Only thing that seems to have changed is that they seem to have become more refined & now drink wine instead of beer
