Yes, I felt it too! I woke up with my room shaking, and things on my dressing table rattling..
But it was all over so quickly, I stayed nice and warm in bed... my clock said 3.05hrs. No after shocks. Was it because it was so deep?
This morning the house is still standing. Will check it more thoroughly externally when it stops raining....

The after shock two hours ago in same area was in the much more dangerous depth of 2 km, however I did not feel it.
Lucky that the big one was at 50 km app

Cyprus gets hit by an earthquake at 3.00am and the first thing people do is jump online to tell everyone

I hope everyone property and neighbours were checked and found to be ok. Personally, it woke me up, I went back to sleep and checked around when I woke up again.

Pfff, it was a big one, depth over 50km, the aftershocks were between 20 and 2 km deep. I also do remember the one in 1995. I stayed in bed and slept like a baby.

What was eerie was watching the water in the swimming pool - it took about 10-12 minutes to settle.

The news article I wrote has been shared over a thousand times already, so yes, people were up and online, doing what people do. Checking each other are ok, saying they are scared. That sort of thing. Welcome to the 21st century.

Cyprus News reported 1586 chickens died due to asphyxiation at a farm in Kallepia as the chickens tried to gather on one side of the building during the tremors.

Only small damages from this morning’s strong earthquake

Cyprus and particularly the district of Paphos might have been in the epicenter of the strong earthquake this morning, measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale but we have managed to avoid the worst and suffered only small damages.

Particularly in the area of Chrysochou and the communities of the north semi-mountainous area of Paphos that had been nearer to the epicenter, serious problems were caused mainly regarding items that fell to the ground, as can be seen from the following photo from a supermarket in Stroumbi.

Looks like the Paphos area generally has got off lightly. Particularly in the Polis area which was closer. Am thankful that apart from the loss of the chickens, there seems to have been no other loss of life.
We used to keep chickens, so remember that they are fairly brainless and inclined to panic. I wonder if these were loose but confined in a large barn?

A good tip is to check your water meters in case any underground pipework has been damaged.
