in-cyprus reports the above will close on Tuesday 14th Jan.
Rumours have been circulating for months so it is no real suprise. The local communities are rightly upset since there are now no banks between Paphos and Polis.

That is sad news as we have an account there. No doubt the one we will have to go to in Paphos will have queues of people outside. :-(

Yes, it is ridiculous this branch is closing as it serves such a large community.

Easier to use the branch just down from Sklavenitis - park in their car park and it's across the road.

Well I suppose they will be kind enough to inform us where our accounts will move to, I bet it will be the branch in Paphos right in the middle of those road works. We like to use cash for everything but that will go out of the window and it’s card transactions from now on presuming who you are paying has the facilities for card payments, will have to turn to online banking I suppose as well.

Helenic closed our branch in Butchers Boy Street, we weren't informed where our new branch was. I thought it would be the branch in Ellados Avenue but it was the main branch next to Cyta.

20 communities of Paphos to protest closure of only bank in their area

Some 20 communities of Paphos are organizing a protest on Tuesday against the fact that the only bank branch in Stroumbi village will close on 14 January.

This is the first organized reaction to the closure of the Hellenic Bank and the communities announced an escalation of measures in the coming period.

The bank announced that the specific branch will close down and work will be transferred to the bank branch in Pegia.

The residents of the 20 communities are furious and among the measures planned is the withdrawal of their deposits from the specific bank.

Sorry to hear about the closure of the branch in Stroumbi. For anyone who may be interested, Hellenic has a large branch in Chloraka. It's situated in the 'village' road, opposite side of the road to Tassos Angelos Pharmacy. Both are before you reach the cemetery. It seems to be open normal banking hours.

I hope the cashpoint stays but I doubt it.

Is it not possible to get cash at supermarket tills if you have a Cypriot bank card? That's what they have been offering in Germany since so many bank branches closed.

The only supermarket that I've been offered this is
Papantonious.

Is it possible to just get cash at the checkout without a sale?

Trev,
It is usually easier to park outside the bank in Chloraka, often outside it, but there are some off street, small car parks which are free. Glad if that info helps you.

I was surprised when they opened this branch in Chloraka, probably longer ago than I think but 3 to 4 yrs ago perhaps. The trend was and still is to close off these outer town branches but this one a new branch, I am sure someone will put me right if I am mistaken..
It's a good size premises and always parking available so very useful. 8-)
