A 5.5 kW heater will require 24 A, assuming that it's single phase. This would require 4 mm² wiring. It is possible that you do not have this capacity, please check before going ahead.

I thought all (?) UK elements were 3KW

Would a titanium one do?

I've just had a quick look round and found that I had misunderstood the 5.5 kW heater. I initially assumed that it was similar to an ordinary 3 kW immersion heater on a larger scale. Not so! A quick stroll round the Internet found that the 5.5 kW models were for instantaneous hot water and not for heating a tankful of water. This is a horse of a different colour!

Why don't you try an Incoloy Emersion Heater, Scewfix do both Incoloy and Copper ones.
