I was asked to comment on the eastern forum on the subject. This is what I said:

B'oody 'ell: the long range weather forecasts depend entirely on the quality of the seaweed used. The leading forecaster in Europe is undoubtedly that of the UK meteorological service. This is not the one the TV uses but it's nearly as good. If you listen carefully to what they say on the TV (qualified meteorologists) you will hear quite often words like "may", "perhaps", "maybe" etc, especially for 3 to 5 days. If they can't do it over a few days, what credibility can you give for three weeks? To take a current example, the weather pattern which caused the tornadoes in the US is reaching Labrador, whence it will cross the Atlantic. No one can guess where it will reach land in Europe, maybe Norway, maybe Portugal but most likely somewhere between those extremes; perhaps we should ask Mr Fish.
