Our son was due to go with his squad to Kajaki from Sangin but his R&R came up and he returned to the UK for a break and it was while he was with us that he learnt of what happened to his mates. He subsequently visited them in the hospital in Birmingham which was the main UK centre for those injured in Afghanistan.

Some those soldiers who were injured later returned to the regiment.
