Paphos Life

In this drive we start by Limassol Mall and head down to the docks. We then drive down the main sea front past all the hotels.

An interesting video & was our first experience of Cyprus & thought not again. Fortonately some savvy tourists pointed us to Paphos & we continued to visit but a couple of questions. Is it obligatory to drive on the right side of a dual carriageway & have you ever passed the knowledge because your navigation is impressive

Hell, it took 10 minutes before I even recognised where you were!
I used to work for a while at a gaming office just by the port and often watched the cruise ships appear outside the window as they moored up
After a night shift when I worked near Makarios roundabout in the days before the highway was constructed, I would drive back home along the seafront in the morning sunshine at 7am rather than attempt the carnage of the roundabouts going back to Ypsonas so would head up inland from the port in the direction of the new hospital.
Once the highway was completed, I could drive to work much more quickly with the added attraction of being able to see the sea all the way into the office. Sunny winter mornings provided a feast for the eyes.
But "Crash Friday" was always a nightmare, I eventually reduced my working hours which gave me a long weekend, my sanity back and the added benefit of still receiving the non-contributory health care.

My first visit to Cyprus began with a 3 week stay at the end of November in 1985 at a tourist apartment just behind what was the Woolworths building and by the ETKO tower on the seafront in Limassol.

I loved it and returned numerous times to various parts of Limassol and Ayia Napa.

When we were planning our move to Cyprus my job would have been at the Paphos office but after several visits we decided we didn't like the general feel of the place and set off staying in Limassol again. Lucky for us, we had a 3yr plan due to my husband's health and the age of my stepson as we wanted to prepare him for flying over alone for the summer holidays.

So I switched my job opening to the head office in Limassol and went on a property hunt a couple of months before our moving date.

Just before we left Cyprus in 2016 I went back to photograph the first place I stayed in Limassol and around the area of the Lordos Hotel Apartments. There used to be a petrol station and I think the pub just by it was called the White Horse in 1985.
It was good to see they kept the tower.

Just to clarify my earlier post. We liked Limmasol but our hotel advertised as 5* fell well short of the mark. For example one morning our breakfast table was covered in bird droppings. Speaking to the general manager I asked if he had a scraper. What do you want that for? To scrape the stars off your hotel wall
