From Monday all passengers aged 12 and over arriving in the Republic by plane or ship will have to undergo a PCR test, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not, it was announced on Thursday.

Cabinet approved a proposal by Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos on mandatory PCR tests by all persons aged 12 and over upon arrival in the Republic of Cyprus, by air or by sea, regardless of the country of departure. The cost of the test will be paid by the passengers. This measure will be in place until January 10.

Passengers entering the Republic from ports for a short visit must have a negative PCR certificate not older than 72 hours. In addition, upon arrival, they will be required to undergo a rapid antigen test, at the expense of the Republic of Cyprus.

Presenting the proposal, Karousos pointed out the need for temporary measures at the entry points of the Republic, due to the detection of the new Omicron mutation which has been recorded in some African and European countries.

More measures are expected to be announced shortly.

Yesterday, 18 cases of Covid were detected among incoming passengers at the airports. This was done through the selective testing of arrivals. Presumably, because of the risk of the new virus coming, it is a step up to make PCR testing compulsory for all incomers.
Those coming through the check points is a separate issue.
The main worry there is the increase in illegal immigration by those who sneak across the green line, avoiding checkpoints altogether.

It's no longer the cost of flights that you consider but all the " add ons"...
Gonna suppress the travel industry even more....
Why bother booking flights etc when you just have no idea if the flight will happen or become pointless for a short visit.....

So basically vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers are being treated exactly the same?

Not sure about the un vaccinated. But most countries are asking that visitors have already had their vaccinations.. They are all trying to avoid the spread of the new variant. Many airlines require their passengers to have vaccination certificates.

Perhaps unvaccinated people should consider not traveling and avoiding the risk of becoming infected....

If I (double vaccinated plus booster) fly to Cyprus next Tuesday and sit next to someone who isn’t vaccinated, will we be treated differently at Paphos airport?

What if your travel takes more than 24 hours, e.g. because you have to change planes?

That's exactly the situation I'm in, but having checked the US government requirements, Antigen tests are permissible so I have booked for these to be done in Frankfurt airport earlier in the morning of the flight's departure to the US. Results in 15 minutes (theoretically!).
