I hope that I am reasonably able to identify “fake news” but this may possibly be an indication of an imminent lockdown.

My wife and I went to a local English-run bar yesterday for a drink. Ann was chatting to the landlady and asked how their recruiting drive was going. She was told that they had put it on hold for the moment (despite being short of staff) because information from two separate sources suggested that a lockdown might be imminent.

The first person was a policeman who warned them that a lockdown might be about to be instituted. The second was from a teacher who told them there was a drive for all children to download material for remote learning in case there was a lockdown.

This may all be coincidental but I thought I would post it here in case anyone else had heard things that might prove - or disprove - what was being suggested.

You may or may not have advance notice of this, but my hunch is that the Govt has this as a 'back up' plan, but that they would like Christmas to go ahead, with the other plan in reserve for January...

If only more kids in the 10-19 year age group would get vaccinated as what I read this * morning suggests that now this age group is providing a good percentage of the current cases of Covid.

The problem with vaccines for youngsters is that the chances for adverse side-effects increases as the patient gets younger, whereas the effect of having COVID itself decreases. If the only benefit in vaccinating a child against COVID is that it helps the spread of COVID amongst the more vulnerable adult population, at the expense of the welfare of children, then that is no benefit.

If the hospitals are filling up with children who have serious bouts of COVID, then clearly they are affected as badly as adults. But, to my knowledge, they aren't.

With regards to the threat of an imminent lockdown, I would say that that is pure speculative gossip. I will edit the title of this thread to reflect that it is pure speculation. I have to do this, because some people only read titles.

First thing I learned when I came over to live here is to ignore all the '' I heard it down the pub stuff''.
All in all I think this government has done a good job, controlling this virus, you only need to look at what is happening in places like the Netherlands and others today.

Yes, I agree with you HIC. Well said! I carry a mask and my EUDCC pass with me everywhere I go. These are sensible precautions in Cyprus and keep businesses and banks working. Compared with the UK where people can do what they like, yet if you try to make a business call to a UK business or bank, insurance co etc, much of the time it seems to be answered by someone who is working from home and thus doesn't have normal access to other staff at their office or your file... Plus I feel safer in Cyprus!
