Anogyra Vlou Archaeological Site

The countryside of Cyprus is swamped with archaeological sites, though many of them are rightly off-limit to the public. A couple of years ago a forum regular visited Anogyra Vlou, and now that it is also shown on Google Maps, we thought it an opportune time to revisit the location and have a look for ourselves.

Well, the huge Monolith, as you say the star of the place, was not only used for olive oil production later, but ca 300 BC until 300 AC this area was the Sanctuary of Apollon. The Monolith, which I believe is the largest in Cyprus, was that time venerated from visitors which offered jewellery to it.
So the strange looking notches at the front were perhaps used to deposit things or just decoration.
