I have lost touch with this technology but can anyone suggest some software that can do this automatically to a memory stick every time a file is added or changed

A lot of external drives come with this sort of tech built in.

I got one for my Father-in-Law. He never used it, but had he done so it would have done exactly what you said.

I know he never used it, because my wife just popped back to the UK to see him and backed his system up while she was there.

There is a Windows 7 backup facility that is provided within Windows 10. I use this to automatically backup to an external drive.
