want to ship assorted household goods (all used) from UK to Cyprus, would I have to pay VAT or import duty on them (can't import under moving to Cyprus rules as spent 8 of last 12 months in cyprus)

I think you would have to pay at least import duty. But the best way to find out is to contact a local shipping company that bring in Shared Containers every week.. Contact RSS in Peyia when the office is open in the morning
