Work is almost completed on Neo Plaza, the island’s first discount village which will open its doors in September with 45 stores in Kokkinotrimithia.

Located in the Nicosia district, Neo Plaza will feature approximately 45 stores, ranging from fashion, cosmetics, jewellery and food. These include discount supermarket chain Pop Life, Cosmos Sport outlet and Meliryton traditional bakery. Some brands will be making their debut on the island.

Yes, discount villages probably started in the USA, where they are very successful and they are very popular in the UK. The new project in the Nicosia area seems quite ambitious, hope that it will be the same in Cyprus too! Wonder where owners of outlets will find a large supply of cut price, but good quality stock of all kinds? Does Cyprus have much of a manufacturing industry these days? Or are most things imported now?
Maybe HIC can tell us?

You most certainly do not need to go through Nicosia Strovolos or Engomi. You get off the Latsia roundabout and head towards Lakatamia from where there is a direct road to where the Neo Plaza lives. Your mobile should be able to give you a map.

Much less stress and 30 km shorter is the route I used many times when driving to Kokkinothrimithia to visit our supplier for PV modules in the past.
It is such a nice tour with many times fantastic views and very little traffic. (and you can have lovely trout at Kakopetria)
This map from Michelin shows it (route #2)

It is arguable whether it is worth to drive all the way just to get a better price for articles you can also buy in Paphos within 20 minutes or so.
But if you include the trip with sightseeing through the mountains, perhaps it is an idea....

We've taken that route once before, Max, and it's a lovely drive. Will have to try it again.

Maybe, especially if you go on a day when it isn't packed out!!
I have had some great buys in the USA discount villages, when we used to go there fairly regularly..But of course a vast country like that has a huge manufacturing base. We got some lovely bath towels, china, all sorts of clothes and shoes and low, low prices. Probably it would be hard for Cyprus to do that, but we shall see!

I suspect a lot of items/clothes that haven't sold well in the shops around the island will find there way here.

And I have little doubt that they will import rejected articles from within the union, especially France, Germany and Italy

I find that I enjoy the journey to places such as this much more than the destination itself.
