Wine sinking an ageing experiment for Pafos 2017

By Bejay BrowneTWO HUNDRED and eighty bottles of Cypriot red wine were immersed in the sea at an artificial reef off Geroskipou in Paphos at the weekend, as part of a cultural programme linked to Paphos??? year as a European city of culture in 2017....

This is an old story that explains why the bottles are being retrieved today.

Also of interest are the barrels shown in the accompanying photograph. These same barrels can now be seen decorating Kennedy Square.

I couldn't imagine that spending two years at the bottom of the sea would do anything to improve the local plonk! 😉

Personally, I think that anything would improve the local plonk.

Personally, I think that anything would improve the local plonk.
Is a good excuse, blaming the temperature of the sea. Depending how deep down they stored the wine the temperature in Summer was for sure not 12C as the surface temp in August is app 30C. It is the biggest problem for Cypriot Wineries to keep also in Summer balanced temp. and humidity.
