There has always been speculation on the amount of UK expats, who reside in Cyprus, now we know the factual number.

I'm surprised the number is that low. I always thought there were more Brits here, or maybe it just felt like it at times!

It mentions legally residing, I wonder how many are illegally residing?

If you live in, an expat enclave, then it would seem higher.

Without doubt, there are illigals living here, I think they will be caught out, as soon as they try and leave the country, also when they need to visit hospitals, official offices, ie driving fine payment etc etc,

I never could understand why expats hesitate to be registered, unless they have something very fishy in their background.

I wonder how many of those who have the MEU1 actually reside here or have the MEU1 because they visit a property here.

You're probably right. I have Cypriot neighbours both sides of me ( but a distance away) and that's it for a good distance.

Registration meant showing income and bank accounts, some would not fit that criteria to be eligible so never registered.

I suspect that is the legally registered figure. The BHC in mid last year launched a web service to encourage the estimated 31000 non legally registered Brits to formalise their status.

I do think that there are noticeably less Brits around Paphos this year compared say with 2 or 3 years ago. I think that some Brits decided to leave before the Brexit for various reasons, age, health concerns or family pressures. A few didn't qualify for MEU registration such as they were staying with friends, or were paying rent, but on an informal basis with no formal rental agreement. Also I know of several Bris who have sadly passed away.
So maybe a natural wastage... At one time I always saw other Brits at supermarkets, now quite often there are none.
As a non resident of Peyia area I don't inclyde Phillipos!
