Amazon log in issue

I am having difficulty logging into Amazon. Now when I am sent a OTP verification code it is a complicated looking series of letters followed by the words “Tap to respond”. As I don’t have a smart phone I cannot do this. To speak to Amazon by phone or chat I am asked to log in, which I can’t do. Managed to get the code sent by email, which was a straightforward six digit number. When I entered this I was sent the same complicated OTP on my basic phone. So, can’t contact Amazon by phone, chat, or email. Has anybody had this problem and solved it or does anyone have an email or phone number for them?
No cracks about getting a smart phone please.
Thanks

I don't use amazon enough to remember but does it not ask if you want the OTP sent via text to your phone?

You Say " No cracks about getting a smart phone please." But maybe that is the way forward - I take it you use your phone for most things even logging in on here ? Even a cheaper or used Smart phone might be the best option - If you were able to tap on the link you would probably not be asking the question on here now. Old technology is very frustrating as it is not up to speed with life these days - Sometimes you have to update - I remember back in the sixties rushing home to watch Z-Cars on a Sunday night when "wallop" The gas pilot light went out on the TV and buy the time you got it Re-Lit you had missed half of the program - These days you just switch the TV on and it stays on - Progress is amazing .

I tried to log in yesterday the same thing. I tapped to respond and just got an email saying someone had tried to log in with my password. Gave up!

Hi Polly
I had virtually the same issue about a year ago. I asked my daughter in the UK to contact amazon and get them to ring me. They did and fixed the problem only for it to re-occur almost immediately. I went through this process(contacting amazon) many times but the issue was only resolved short term.
I differ from you in that I do have a smart phone to which the otp verication code is sent . When I tap on it nothing happens. So now I send the code on the phone by email to my computer, copy and post and then confirm the security question. Amazon then opens.
I have to go through this rigmarole every time I want to use Amazon which these days is less and less often.
I have also opened a second amazon account which works . But sometimes I need to use the original account since that is where our Kindle , Firestick, and Alexa devices are registered
The issue , in my case, is caused through using a DNS which hides my true location so that we can watch UK TV. It works well. Amazon though seems able to determine that the server is located in Turkey. How they do this is beyond me.
I am not at all sure that any of this will help you, but I hope so.

Thank you for your replies.
71 Trans Am - I hear what you are saying and have been thinking that I might have to do just that, get a smart phone as more and more often institutions are sending apps to smart phones, in particular banks. But I don’t use the phone very much for calls and have a hard job using my pay as you go €5 euro voucher in time.I have a landline, laptop and tablet and use these mostly. It’s not so much paying for another phone as paying for a mobile package and changing my number with all contacts.
Gerryg and Darrow - It has been helpful to know I’m not alone. Gerry, have you got a phone number for Amazon? However, it looks like I will have to source my supplements and anything else from the UK now and pay the duties. The last order I had was from Amazon de.

Thanks Gerry
I'll try typing the code into the verification box on my laptop and see if I can get in. I'll have to key it in manually though! If that doesn't work, I'll try the tel numbers.

Hi Polly
I tried typing in the code and it worked, but it’s a lot of typing and easy to make a mistake. But worse is that when you try to log in again the same thing happens. That is you get the verification code once again. I am not sure if Amazon allows the code to be sent via email. Never thought to check.
If you do phone Amazon you have to get customer care to divert you to security as it’s only security that can sort the matter for you. As l have said though ,in my case, the solution was short term.
I have a cheap smart phone and use a prepaid card . Twenty euros lasts me about about a year.

Just the same as any phone, they have got rid of cards and started to give you a printed ticket, but actually now if you buy a So Easy at a kiosk, give them your phone number and they can top it up from their machine immediately.
If your worried about costs get rid of your house phone by telling Cyta that you only want internet and have just a "Naked Line" then you will save around 9 euros a month line rental

Slightly frustrating though it is, Amazon's log-in is actually quite straightforward imo. What is so annoying these days is that almost every site you go in from Google these days requires you to accept cookies and a load of other garbage. I usually disallow everything before clicking accept, but it is so time-wasting and irritating.
Thank the EU for that. However, if you just accepted cookies which is what we all did automatically before the EU said we had to be given the option, the message would go away.

Hi Polly
I see your question about where to buy a card (ticket now) has been answered by uncle d. I use a prepaid primetel ticket. My wife uses a prepaid cytanet ticket. I don’t think it make a difference.

When we looked at Primetel pricing, they always seemed very competitive, good luck to them.
