At the end of the day, personal common sense must prevail! So much of what we read relates to a greater or lesser extent to risk of pickng up the virus. Wearing of a clean mask on all outings from home, frequent washing of hands, disinfecting door handles, trying to maintain social distancing when out - all seem sensible. But I have never resorted to sanitising my shopping or cleaning the whole of a shopping trolley, just the handle.. I have read somewhere that the virus doesn't linger long on hard surfaces, so I will sit on a bench sometimes to rest when out walking for exercise.

But I usually shop at off peak times, before 9am when I can. At that hour shops aren't at all crowded.
It's really up to the individual to decide.

I think I have mentioned on this forum that an elderly neighbour as far back as 2004 used to clean all shopping items before putting them away.
When we lived aboard our catamaran we unpacked everything, checked and cleaned it and removed all outer packaging before putting it on board and were one of a few yachts that never had an infestation of cockroaches or other tropical beasties.

I was surprised at the emphasis given to cleaning surfaces when right from the beginning everyone was aware that Covid-19 is an airborne disease, however there is sense in cleaning surfaces because many people unwittingly touch things and then their faces without thinking. Coronavirus can spread through the eyes — just as it does through the mouth or nose (https://www.med.umich.edu/kec/pdf/coron ... es-aao.pdf).
