Today is the last day for vehicle owners to renew their road tax for 2021.

As of tomorrow there will be a surcharge equal to 10% of the outstanding sum plus 10 euro.

Road tax can be renewed for three, six, nine or 12 months. Vehicles must have an MOT and insurance.

I normally renew my road tax for 12 months at the beginning of January on the jcc system, but this time I annoyingly made a mistake and only taxed my car for 3 months (until end of March).

Would I have to pay a surcharge when I go to pay for the next 9 months?

If you have paid a surcharge on 3 months then yes there will be one for the others

Must remember to tax mine tonight after dinner.

No, because you paid for the Jan-Mar on time and the system allows you to only pay for 3 months. Payment for Apr onwards will open in April and as long as you pay by whatever the closing date it, you shouldn't have a surcharge.

I have done this before and don't remember any issues.

Thank you Ams..... much appreciated. I paid for Jan-Mar at the beginning of the year. I will of course be renewing for the remainder of the year on 1st April.

As the last day for taxing legally was the 11th and today is the 12th, I assume you will have to pay an extra fee...
