Electricity Meter Reading

We have had a new electricity meter fitted, presumably by the EAC. The old one was easy to read. It just had a big analogue display.

The new one is digital, and alternates between two numbers. Which number is which?

One of the numbers is like this: 5 00000123

NB: The 5 is small, and raised slightly, as if it signified a footnote or something.

The other number is standard 00000234

Both numbers increase on a daily basis, but at a different rate. Which of these numbers is the actual meter reading, and what is the other number for?

It looks like a meter with double reading i.e. day and night !

So what is the meter reading then? The number that increases the most, or the sum of both of them?

Could this be a so-called 'Smart Meter' I wonder? Take a good close-up picture of it on your smartcam and attach it here, so we can study it, to us help and advise further, please?

Cheers- AL :)
