Does anyone tip the guy who fills your fuel tank at a fuel station?

Hi Maverick,
Yes we do usually about €1 when filling up.

Ah, BM, you surprise me. Apey has taught you well.
I gave an attendant €1 this morning and he was so grateful I nearly gave him another...

We never tip them either. A few years ago on one of our holiday visits to Cyprus, our car hire was supposed to be from Larnaka airport, but the 4x4 wasn't ready, so the carhire firm sent a limo instead to ferry us to our villa in Paphos. I was very grateful, and tried to tip the guy when he brought us to our destination.
He thought I was mad. He couldn't understand why I was trying to give him money. It was quite refreshing.

Thank you all for your replies. I've always given the attendant €1 and nice to know I'm not the only one...

No, not for filling up the car. It's their job isn't it?
However I do tip if one of them checks my tyre pressures.

I don't tip for filling up but certainly do if they wash screen and always when they fill tyres with air.

I read somewhere that Cypriots don't tend to tip in restaurants other than rounding it up to the nearest note.

There is a lovely East European lady at our local petrol station, always the with a smile and a greeting, and who always cleans out front and back screens with "cleanish" water. So a €1,00 tip and never worry about it.

Only if they give an extra €1 of fuel.

Never at a petrol station and in restaurants it depends on the overall enjoyment of the meal.

I do too, I appreciate not having to get out of the car to fill up myself as in UK, especially in summer! It's worth a € and you get your windscreen cleaned too. I just assumed it was the norm.

WE give them 50 cents, but only if they clean the screen.

Yes, I always tip if they clean the screen. I love not having to get out of the car and really miss that when in the UK. I would not tip if they were grumpy or had attitude though!
