Garage Door

Does anyone know of a local company who makes "up and over" garage doors?

I can ship one from the UK but if I now get stung for duty and VAT it is going to be quite expensive, although I've seen the odd one here over the years, the only place I know that may have made one appears to have closed down, so just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Thanks in advance

You could try Kasinos Rolex in Paphos. When I lived in my previous house in Kamares, this company fitted a new motor and associated parts to my electric garage door.
Their phone no is:26 951212. Their shop is located near to the Polis Rd. If you remember where the Dulux Paint shop used to be, they will be on the left hand corner of what is a short street.
Hope that they can help you. I found them very helpful.

Most garage doors here are the roller shutter type. I don't think I have ever seen the 'Up and Over' type that is usual in the UK

Thank you both but I'm not looking for an electric one or a roller shutter door - just a standard up and over fitting garage door - the builder doing the garage will make the frame as part of the building and it will rarely be used, we have no plans to keep a car in the garage, it's just a storeroom/workshop but has to be a 'garage' to satisfy building regs!

Probably cheaper and easier and more attractive if you just had someone make a pair of wooden barn doors.

If you do use wood for external doors or windows, you need to use a seasoned hardwood. At my previous house we had a front door made of Iroko, a hardwood from the far east- rather like teak. With reasonable care it lasted for all the 19 years that I lived there and was still in good condition when I had to sell the house.
Similarly, window frames made from a good hardwood will also last, if kept oiled. But few builders use hard wood in Cyprus unless the client specifies it as it is expensive.

Thank you for the replies, I’m sure a basic pair of doors would be cheaper (although not much) and I have no problem with the upkeep of them, however, the garage door is going to be right on the road, albeit a road which is only leading to our neighbours drive and where their family park, but officially a public highway so it would make much more sense not to have doors opening outwards or indeed inwards due to space restraints.
I have seen several basic metal UK style doors here and had one myself in rented house for 8 years so they do exist in Cyprus, it just seems that they have now been replaced by more up to date electronic ones.

I did have an up and over garage door to my garage, it was electrically operated, but in fact it could be lifted manually as well. Only thing is that it was obtained and installed by Leptos . Not sure where they got it from. But it could have been from Nicosia, it wasn't metal, more a synthetic lightweight material. Would somewhere like Leroy Merlin, Nicosia, have garage doors?
Thing is metal garage doors could become very hot in summer sun, whereas a synthetic material didn't.

I made my own garage doors, in fact I have 3 entrances to my basement and all have twin barn doors. Made them in 2005 and still going strong.I am just a DIY type who likes the rustic look.

A quick search on the Leroy Merlin website only brings up electric rollup doors.

Thanks again - I have tried Leroy Merlin, and looked at all the ones coming up on google - I really meant a small local metal shop, the one I have used for almost 30 years and who would have known of anywhere else to try appears to have closed down, but I will keep trying to contact the guy and ask his neighbours
