If you are an S1 holder living in Cyprus and you have a UK European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), this card remains valid for use across the EU for any necessary treatment, until the card expires. Once your EHIC expires you can apply online for a new card - www.nhs.uk/ehic.

Certainly a letter I had in December from the Overseas Healthcare Services (OHS) in the UK contained instructions for applying online for an EHIC card. I completed the application. I had an email saying an EHIC card would be sent.

If you go onto the NHSBSA.NHS.UK web site the GHIC is for those living in UK.

That would be right in your circumstances. I am below retirement age and thus got a GHIC.

Are you referring to the Cyprus Medical Card which is (usually) valid for 5 years? Ours are renewed even though we have E121 forms which have been superseded by the S1 form.
People have been renewing them at the CSC but perhaps worth an email ([email protected]) or phone call (Tel 17000) to GESY to find out if the card is still required for some GESY services eg at the state hospitals.

A lot of us Brits refer to the white medical card as the E121 , but if you flip the card over you will see it is the YY [IY] 91 .

According to Tala blog spot it might still be needed despite Gesy , so best to get a new one . They are usually on the ball at posting them out .

I was also advised this for hospital cards - not just the white one. Some areas are still not covered under Gesy.

We automatically received our new white medical card in the post last week, hadn’t even realized they were due for renewal!

Not a direct answer but we were issued with a new EHIC card January 2020 which was valid for 5 years.
However, towards the end of 2020 there were some articles stating that S1 form holders must apply for a new EHIC.
This we did and duly received our new EHIC cards a few weeks later.

''Who can use a UK-issued EHIC
Some people can get a new UK-issued EHIC which is valid for visits to Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

You’ll be able to apply if you’re:

an EU, Norwegian, Icelandic, Liechtenstein or Swiss national, and started living in the UK before 1 January 2021
receiving a UK State Pension or some other ‘exportable benefits’, and started living in the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland before 1 January 2021
a ‘frontier worker’ (someone who works in one state and lives in another), and started being one before 1 January 2021, for as long as you continue to be a frontier worker in the host state
an eligible family member or dependant of one of the above''

Lloyd, ask your doctor to print off the form for a Cyprus EHIC and take it to the citizens centre. Then wait.
