I have recently had to replace my HP printer and chose a similar model that had the same size ink cartridges albeit a different part number. The old ones were almost full so I though I’d be ok to use them but the message popped up saying incompatible cartridges.

Anyone know of a work around to be able to use the old ones or do I just bin them?

Look on the HP support site. There is usually software you can download which makes it ignore it! I don't use the HP ink cartridges, but the generic ones at a fraction of the price which I got from UK. However I might need a rethink with Brexit and duties. Carteidge world will take your old ones and exchange them. Cheaper than brand new.
