Lidl return without receipt

Without thinking I left the receipt for my shopping in the trolley. On it was an item that I now want to return. Does anyone know if Lidl ever make exceptions to the rule about only accepting returns with a receipt? It's not an expensive item so I could donate it to charity. Just thought I'd ask the question.

They will not accept anything back without a receipt at the store, but I think you can take it up with their head office.

Thanks all, I expected this so I'll just donate the item to one of the charity shops. No problem.
