Does anyone know for certain what the black and white kerb markings mean that are appearing just about everywhere? I have googled the question a few times and for the first time ever I haven't been able to find the answer to a query.

They are painted so that people who don't know why will see them easier and not run into them and damage a wheel.

I think it is to keep council workers busy so they have no time to fill in the potholes in the road .

My Cypriot friend assures me that it officially means no parking.

In Polis outside the Tourist Info building and down to the entrance of the pay n display they are marked out. I assume it means no parking or "for buses'
" as they seem to park there frequently. Mind you, so does everybody else!

Nothing to do with parking, rather just to highlight kerbs, this end of the island we have alot of roundabouts painted this way.

Thanks for all your replies. I am thinking more that it is to highlight the kerb having now seen a picture and something like "warning of kerb construction". At first I thought no parking but they are everywhere and surely people can't be banned from parking along almost every bit of roadside. There are yellow lines for no parking.

Glang3000 - what is the source of your Cypriot friend's 'official' information? That's what I was looking for, some official explanation.

The Cyprus Highway Code makes no mention of kerb markings, so I guess must be a little quirky thing that municipalities do to use up left over paint. I should add, nothings ever black or white

Perhaps if they have some white paint left over they could highlight the numerous speed bumps.

Nothing to do with no parking otherwise they wouldn't have painted them in official parking spaces such as all the way down Chlorakas Hill.
I wouldn't be too sure about that! Was he supervised, or just given some paint and a brush and let loose? I read in the CM about some numpty who painted a cycle path around cars parked in the way

And it’s the same in the lay-by at the top of the Polis road opposite To-Tavernaki
