I have known a few friends with green fingers who have tried over the years to grow it, all without success, the Cypriots like to make a euro or two, and trust me, if it was possible someone would of grown them by now,
Ive seen what passes as a poor shadow of rhubarb, in various green grocers over the years but its very expensive

Oh well, it was a thought but thanks for your replies. As you say we’ve seen it in a Paps supermarket, not this year though and we do love it!!!

Jim Peck sells bags of frozen rhubarb if that’s of any interest.

Garden of Eden on Ellados Avenue usually has fresh rhubarb - using rhubarb makes a change from apple crumble

Yes, HiC rhubarb does love a damp shaded and cool environment. Hence the reason I have great success here in Inverness. I 'force' it under a big black trug every 3 years or so and I get an extra harvest for the freezer.

This will not make you feel any better Mandyr but, that's what I loved (and hated) about living in Cyprus. You just appreciated ALL THE MORE the things you hanker after . . . .when you eventually got your paws on them.

For me it was different varieties of potatoes. When I worked at the garden centre along from Timi they were astounded when I told them about the different variety of tatties I used to grow in Scotland. Don't get me wrong, I know for sure, Cyprus potatoes are delicious and the plethora of dishes I eventually learned to cook was fab . . . . . . . But, I yearned for a Kerrs Pink, Golden Wonder, Pink Fir Apple, King Eddy, Aran Victory, Rooster etc etc 😣

Cyprus completely and utterly brought me back to my childhood when my Mother used made the absolute BEST of 'everything in season' and I am so thankful for it. ❤

Apologies, I just went on a visit right back up memory lane there. 😊
