To(o) far? Yes! Ridiculous! You cannot equate the needs of a good German Teckel with a bad back with a Rottweiler or Giant Schnauzer. OTOH, I may consider an annual MoD test, by a vet, as mandatory to owning it (or being owned by it).

Poor journalism, just to make it interesting to read.

Fact is that they are going to debate better animal protection, like transport of animals, animals kept in a dog run or on a chain or leave dogs all day long alone at the house.

The time to go for a walk with your dog supposed to be 1/2 hour two times a day, not 2 hours as mentioned in this article. Further in future they won't allow dogs kept in a kennel and also dog shows with overbred animals suffering p.e. parts of ears or tails are amputated etc etc. or so short legs that the body touches the floor....
Another important changes will be introduced in animal transport: when temperatures are >30c in their enclosure, than a maximum of 4 hours transport time only will be allowed.

I wonder if a similar law will also come to Cyprus where you can see many times animals on a open lorry transported to a slaughter house at 50c in the sun... or 10-20 hunting dogs in a kennel, fed perhaps once a day if they are lucky...

We where told years ago that you had to do this in Italy.
And that was from an Italian man in Rome!!

There are many dogs that do not get any exercise and are tethered on a chain or kept in a kennel and small run or none at all only put outdoors to do their toilet
Different breeds need different exercises you wouldn’t exercise a Yorkshire Terriers as you would a Springer Spaniel

We have a medium size short haired cross breed dog but he certainly needs, and gets, more than 2 walks a day

There's been quite a lot of publicity here about dogs being walked on hot pavements, resulting in their paws being burnt.

I suppose it depends on where you walk them.

It certainly does in Cyprus... it is difficult to say anything other than heed the advice.. But we walk our dog at lunchtime but is is a very short walk (few hundred yard) for a toilet break and it is on rough concrete.
I have tried it with my bare feet, it is certainly not as hot as smooth concrete drives..

A word of caution on walking your pets in this heat, the pavements are very hot, and this will distress any dog, walk them early or late in the day. I know most know this but you still see owners walking on the pavements, truly stupid just ask any vet.
