Cyprus, French, Israeli aeronautical exercises off Paphos
The Cyprus Army, in collaboration with the Staffs of France and Israel on Tuesday are conducting one-day-long aeronautical exercises off the coast of Paphos, according to Philenews.
Two Rafale fighter jets, a French Air Force transport aircraft and four Israeli Air Force helicopters are taking part.
The French aircraft are to stay at Andreas Papandreou military base in Paphos for some time since they are carrying out patrols in the eastern Mediterranean region, informed sources said.
The Israeli helicopters are due to return to their base late on Tuesday. Cyprus and Israel are planning a joint big aeronautical exercise in September.

Hopefully not, WHL. Probably just. keeping an eye on the gas field and an eye on the Turkish ships movements. Plus carrying a few armaments to show they mean business... Trying to prevent potential problems arising...
The last thing that most countries want is military action.

This sums up Eudogan exactly, Bullies only pick on people that cant fight back,
The current tension in the Mediterranean is Ankara’s “crisis-of-the-month,’’ a strategy employed by the Turkish government to distract from the country’s economic crisis and provide content to pro-government media, Middle East analyst Seth J. Frantzman said in the Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.
Turkey’s track record shows that it usually conducts military campaigns against those who are unable to shoot back, halting when it reaches a red line, Frantzman wrote, but “It’s unclear where that red line may be in the Mediterranean. Ankara is trying to find out.’’
Tensions are soaring in the eastern Mediterranean after Turkey on Monday issued a navigational communication, Navtex, stating the seismic research vessel Oruç Reis would be conducting surveying activities south of the Greek island of Kastellorizo. Turkey also began on Monday two days of naval exercises southeast of Kastellorizo and Rhodes island.
Turkey’s latest research mission is one “with a lot of military muscle behind it,’’ the analyst wrote, while highlighting Greece’s frustration with NATO’s “hands-off approach.”
Athens is preparing to call for an emergency meeting of the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council over the matter, Greek newspaper Kathimerini reported on Tuesday.
“The current crisis at sea looks to be a lot of posturing that will give Ankara’s pro-government press and state media something to write about,’’ Frantzman said.
The lack of check on Ankara’s militarist decisions allows for Turkey to conduct weekly military drills or “appear to be challenging Greece, Egypt, Iraq, the PKK, EU, NATO, Syria, the US and basically everyone,’’ he wrote. This, in turn, makes the Turkish government seem important.
Ankara uses Syrian rebels to fight for it in the war-torn Libya and Syria, and only conducts military campaigns against those who cannot retaliate, such as Kurds in northern Iraq, Frantzman wrote.
But when faced with an Egyptian red line in Libya or Russia in Syria, Turkey generally stops, he added.

As long as other countries stay 'cool', nothing hopefully will happen.
Turkey is pushing the boundaries, but there seems little appetite for a fight.
Many countries, including Turkey are having problems due to the ongoing Covid virus..

Turkey pushing the boundaries has to be an understatement, they are at serious odd with Armenia, Russia, Syria, Kurds, Cyprus, Greece, France, UAE, Egypt, Italy and increasingly the USA. I think you would call that a Royal Flush in poker
The East has China we have Turkey.
Like all power hungry dictators that have gone before him, he will meet a nasty end.

As far as I know Cyprus has not one helicopter with night-flight equipment which could be so important to fight forest fires. Perhaps there is pilot training going on at the moment with the help of Israel Defence Forces p.e. and it would be very helpful not to think only at air combat manoeuvering but also on fire fighting in future as more fires one can expect in the future. So far every time it gets too dark the existing helicopters coming back to their base.

As far as I know only the RAF helicopter pilots are trained and tested for night flying.
But in practice, since most of the serious fires are up in the Troodos mountains, it is considered too dangerous to use helicopters after dark to fight fires. Because of the uneven terrain and thick smoke reducing the visibility.
At one time the National guard sometimes flew night sorties using their helicopters, but after a couple of crashes at night due to either hitting power lines or rising ground, which resulted in loss of the aircraft and human life, this was stopped.

Your not correct re the RAF being the only ones trained for night flying,
the Cypriot national guard have attack helicopters with night flying capabilities ,
and they are often used for night exercises, and I doubt if they ask the RAF to fly their helicopters for them,
the only night accident I can remember was when the NG commander Florakis died about twenty years ago , during a night exercise.

As far as I know the Cypriot National Guard have neither night attack helicopters are anyone with the necessary training to fly them! The Cypriots may have a couple of small helicopters, but the large helicopters which are used for fire fighting are wet leased by the Govt each year for what may be called "the fire season'

I dont know where you get your info from, but you are not correct, try google and you will find out Cyprus possesses, advanced Attack helicopters, Russian and French in fact, with night flying capabilities, and guess what? they do not fly themselves, with respect you should really try and find out a few facts, before posting ridiculous claims like , Quote, ''the Cypriot's may have a couple of small helicopters',
for someone who has lived here for many years, you really dont have much idea on what is going on in the country you choose to live in.
