I collected another prescription yesterday and had to pay 6€ again for registration...the pharmacy said I need to register every 2 months, but 23rd June to yesterday is not 2 calendar months... is this normal ..

In the past even though I have not been seeing a consultant, but just been collecting a pre written prescription, (edited) I have had to pay 6 euros for labels ..

Trev, I'm presuming you meant 'prescriptions'. Why use the GH Pharmacy & not one in the Town/Village. My Dr gives me a 'scrip for 6 months & each item costs me €1.00 from my local Pharmacy!

If I see a consultant by referral of my PD, the cost is €6 and that entitles me to 2 further visits within the timeframe stated on the referral form issued by my PD. No further charge, apart from any prescription or further tests such as X-ray, blood analysis etc.,as required by the consultant.

Mike.. sorry yes I did mean prescriptions.. I do now use the local pharmacies, but I still need to see two different hospital consultants and it costs me 6 euros a visit..
I wish my prescription items were only one Euro each :-(

The 6€ I paid x2 was only registration for the pharmacy ONLY not for seeing a consultant who is outside the hospital and I pay him at his clinic
I don’t understand why I have to register to use the hospital pharmacy?

I have a (very) dim recollection from the early days of GESY and the huge volumes of news / speculation about how it would operate, that the pharmacies in the general hospitals would be closed to outpatients as so many of the Local pharmacies were joining GESY, leaving the pharmacies in the general hospitals to cater for inpatients. So maybe in all of that there was a fee introduced for outpatients to use the hospital pharmacies? Is your medication not available with a GESY prescription at the GESY registered pharmacies?

Ian

Hi Ian, no, sadly not it’s only available at the hospital pharmacy, and the medication is not available on Gesy.

If your medicine is not on the GESY list, submit a complaint to ask why. A pill that I was receiving through GESY was suddenly withdrawn and my PD was not aware of any reason. I submitted a complaint explaining my need and it's now available again. Whether that's for everyone I don't know, but it saves me €43 every month.

Morning, once you have seen your Gesy GP he or she will put all of your prescriptions on a computer, then once you have your prescriptions just go to your normal Pharmacy and they will see what has been prescribed for you, easy we find. Some medications are not available through Gesy then you would need to pay for these, some of my drugs I have to pay a small payment, I am finding this new system mostly excellent, although a recent operation I had to pay 4K to have, but I was told by the specialist soon this would be covered in the new scheme..

Jim, as previously stated my medication is not available at a normal pharmacy, only from the hospital pharmacy

As some drugs can only be dispensed from the Paphos Hospital Pharmacy just wondering if the prescription has to be checked and authorised by a PGH specialist doctor before it is dispensed because the original request came from an outside doctor and due to the strict dispensing regulations for certain drugs ie controlled drugs?

I used to work in the radiology department and in some hospitals certain items we had to use for a specific investigation had to be signed and countersigned with witnesses to provide a chain of evidence (eg radioactive isotopes).

I believe you will only get the proper answer either from your consultant or the pharmacy at the general hospital

I believe you will only get the proper answer either from your consultant or the pharmacy at the general hospital or email GESY direct.

My misunderstanding apparently. I was asked for €6 from my Rheumatologist today for a follow-up from my consultation of 2 days ago! I need to go again on Monday, so I can see why GESY want's to limit the number of visits!

I think 6euros charge is very cheap considering their expertise
