Dr Antoniades at the Hippocratic Clinic opposite Honda and Papantoniou in the centre of Paphos. Tel: 96414749

We saw him last week, very knowledgeable on autoimmune issues. He arranged blood tests, MRI, and a temporal arteritis biopsy while we were there.

Update. I was not at all impressed with The Hippocratic Clinic health & safety measures. No hand gel at entrance. No spacing of waiting seats. Magazines on tables & a doctor wearing his mask under his chin the whole time. His room stank of stale cigarettes, plus ashtray on his desk!

Hi Mike, I too was not impressed with that rheumatologist - stunk of cigarettes and not pleasant at all. I have since been referred to Dr Angelika Nitre - her office is near the Blue Cross hospital and at the back of the old large Alpha Mega. She has been very thorough, sent me for lots of blood tests, referred me to an opthomologist to check my eyes ( which can be affected by the drugs I have taken). She is now hoping to administer a drug that I was denied in the UK (too expensive). So far so good - I can recommend.

I’m sticking with him, I have my own hand gel and wear a mask...he’s been a fantastic help to me when other health professionals have ignored my symptoms for many years

I'm also sticking with him, like Sadie, as he's made the correct diagnosis and acted very promptly, sending me for lots of tests. His treatment to date has got me my life back after months of lying on the bed in pain. I find it strange that I'm defending him as I felt similarly to mike strand 2 when I first met him - cigarette smoke, mask slipping down, and a bit bullish. However, he's come up trumps for me. Having spoken to one of the surgeons at the Evangelismos I discovered that he's very well thought of and considered to be one of the few good rheumatologists in Cyprus. BUT he is bordering on the eccentric.

Unless we're very much mistaken the machine on the ground floor that looks like a water chiller, is a hand gel dispenser. The water chiller is around the corner.

Kanas, I too found him a bit bullish, but he’s a remarkable man, very knowledgeable about auto immune issues.
He’s the ex lead professor from Athens university.
I had terrible problems receiving my much needed and very expensive medication due to my not having a medical card, he did everything in his power so I could get the card and will support me 100% in receiving continuous treatment, even going to the judge at Paphos courts he tells me...he says he’s known as the crazy doctor, he explained he is crazy and passionate for his patients....
You’re correct, the dispenser is for gel

He also likes chocolate muffins!

I looked on this thread to see what Rheumatologist to use when my GP suggested I may need one.
However I didn't need to do the choosing as I was referred to ANDREAS THERAPONTOS (RHEUMATOLOGY Outpatient Specialist), at the Iasis Hospital... He has certainly prescribed the correct mixture of drugs/tablets for me... I was very much restricted in what I could do reaching bending etc and could not lift a teapot with one hand.. I also had lots of joint and muscle/tendon pain But since seeing him I am absolutely fine re movement and no pains.. I have to see him in another week when I suppose he may 'fine tune' the tablet after checking the blood test results. I am well pleased with how I am now

On a side note, years ago when we first arrived we were recommended a GP, but we were warned he was a bit eccentric , turned up at his clinic, in the drive was an old beat up car, my first thoughts were he cant be that good , if he cant aford a decent car, any way we went in, the waiting room was chock ablock with people waiting to see him, out pops this guy who was the spitting image of Einstein, looked at me and said you come in you have kids who need to get to school, I felt uncomfortable because I was jumping the line but no one said anything , cut to the chase this guy was a fantastic GP, he once left me in the room while he went out to the back garden ,as he remembered his plants needed watering, that's as eccentric as it gets, and the reason why he drove a beat up car was, he never refused to treat anyone, many of his patients couldn't afford pay him, and I once heard him say to one old lady, no charge bring me one of those nice halloumi next time you make them, A rare person who cared for peoples health before making money, true story.
