Police look into cause behind car accident where Briton died

Police are investigating the cause behind the car accident in Paphos on Monday afternoon during which British national Ian Henri Pringle, 76, lost his life.

Pringle was a permanent resident of the coastal town.

The accident took place on the Paphos-Kouklia road, near the Kouklia exit.

Police said the car appears to have diverted from its course, first crashed into a road railing and then overturned in an adjacent field before coming to a standstill.

The name difference is because initially the reports only used his christian names, Ian Henry, it was indeed Ian Henry Pringle.

A British national who died in a car accident in Paphos on Monday suffered a heart attack, police said on Wednesday.

The care of Ian Henri Pringle, 76, a permanent resident of the coastal town, had diverted from its course on the Paphos-Kouklia road, near the Kouklia exit.

It first crashed into a road railing and then overturned in an adjacent field before coming to a standstill.

Black humour: it shows the standards of driving in Cyprus when people coming into the country have a heart attack behind the wheel!

Seriously, this happens fairly often. Should the elderly have a risk assessment of a heart attack to obtain a licence? I am 88, have a three chamber stimulator, without which my heart would not work at all, but the risk of a heart attack is practically zero. This is the 30th year I have been wearing a life-dependent stimulator and, in that time, never had a problem (touch wood) except for the hour or two that it takes to surgically change the gizmo, once every 8 to 10 years.
