Be Warned.

Last week my wifes car was hit in a car park shunt. The person whose car hit ours admitted liability but said they had to leave the scene of the accident as they had to collect someone from hospital.
My wife took photographs of the damage and moved her car so the person could leave the scene as my wifes car was blocking the other car in the parking bay.
My wife called the insurance company and a Loss Adjuster arrived and wanted to know where the other driver was.
My wife had the phone number of the other driver and gave it to the Loss Adjuster and it took 3 days to get the other driver to provide their version of events which had changed from the original admission to, "they had reversed into each other", knock for knock.
Fortunately two witnesses agreed to make statements and the other driver admitted fault this afternoon.
My points are
If you are in an accident, take lots of photographs showing damage and position of vehicles.
Try to insist the other driver remains at the scene of the accident.
Look for anyone who witnessed the accident and get their contact numbers.
The Loss Adjuster told me today, it's illegal to leave the scene of an accident but people do and if like our accident both cars are with the same insurance company it doesn't look as if they are making an issue of it.
Finally the Loss Adjuster told me that due to a large number of drivers leaving accident scenes before the Loss Adjuster arrives the insurance companies are petitioning the government to void the insurance of any driver who does.
