And the British high commission said this . Obviously old news now , superseded by the above article which is full of ifs and maybe’s .
“ Cyprus' Ministry of Health Υπουργείο Υγείας Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία, have said the UK will enter category B on 1 August based on current epidemiological data. They added Cyprus will no longer be offering PCR tests at the airports for passengers arriving from countries in category B, unless they are Cypriot citizens or have residency on island. A negative PCR test not older than 72hrs is required for passengers to board a plane from the UK to Cyprus.”

So if you travel to Paphos from the UK and take the test at the airport and you fail Does that mean you spend two weeks confined to barracks at a hotel of the Cypriot governments choice and not the one you booked and then when you are due to return to the UK have another test and fail are you stuck there forever ?
I cannot see this being a Best Seller - Far to much uncertainty as to where you stand with everything - Better off staying at home until its all over - If it is ever over.

Just seeing it like it is - Would you travel Four and a Half Hours to take a test and hope it comes back ok ? You have a better chance with Russian Roulette.

No you don't. With Russian Roulette you have a 5 in 6 chance of not blowing your head off.
You have a much higher chance of not having COVID.
About 5% of the UK population has had COVID. If that 5% all had it now, you would have 19 chances in 20 of not having it. Given that the actual number of active cases is lower than that, the odds on surviving Russian Roulette are much worse.

With regards to non-licensed rentals, given that they are non-licensed I wouldn't hold out much hope. They are free to hotel visitors though, because from what I read, the hotel industry is paying half the bill of the tests.
I do think it would be nice for holiday home owners if they could get tested at the airport though.

That’s not strictly true – The majority of the population have not been tested and according to “ The Specialists “ Many people will have the virus with no symptoms and not even Know that they have it until they arrive and fail the compulsory test and then its far too late to do anything about it
Active cases only result from positive tests – If you have not been tested until you arrive on Holiday your better off having a go with the Gun

Why not get tested in the UK before hand as this is what the official line here is.if you look at the Foreign & Commonwealth travel advice- Cyprus.
Much as Cyprus welcomes tourists, this is a snall Island which has had its own successful lockdown and wants to avoid a 2nd brush with a Covid pandemic.

Tests are not widely available on demand at present in the UK , you can only get one if you have symptoms or are in a high risk occupation . Possibly you could get one privately, but the result might not come in time and is expensive . We have flights booked for October and have no desire to spend a holiday in a quarantine hotel. Unless they start testing in the UK before the flight then reluctantly we won’t be coming . Cyprus is in a catch 22 position I think , understandably the people don’t want to have the virus brought back in , but they need the income from the tourists . I think this plan is a non starter I can’t see people wanting to chance it , you might be seated next to someone who tests positive and then be put in quarantine . Our daughters family of 5 are also supposed to be flying out a similar time to us for half term but being a teacher and Husband in police they can’t risk 2 weeks quarantine . The trouble is with flight only we haven’t the option to change date to next year as BA stipulate you had to book after 3rd March to do this , and will be hoping the flight is cancelled . The hotel we have booked is free cancellation so that’s something .

Louise,
Unfortunately, the UK is seem by Cyprus as still having a higher number of Covid cases than most other countries in Europe, countries are graded A to C , Countries are graded according to their risk. For example, Cyprus and many other European countries are graded as 'A', but the UK is graded as 'C' at present. Hopefully, if virus cases continue to drop there, they will be re graded to 'B' next month and allowed to come here.

But that has nothing to do with Cypprus paying for their tests. My family is coming over from Holland and have to have the tests in The Netherlands for € 180 per person (times 4). And of course, they pay for that themselves, so why should the tests for people from the UK be paid by Cyprus.

Quite frankly I find it ludicrous that anyone would fly to Cyprus, having not been tested prior to departure.
I will be tested in the UK before I fly, the fact that I will have to pay for it doesn't matter to me, it's part of the price I pay for my visit.

The problem is - where do you get a certificate (from an authorised lab, signed by a doctor) within 72 hours of flying. I would have to travel at least 50 miles to get one. I don't object to the cost, but travelling to a city at the moment seems against better judgement.

Exactly Louise, anyone wanting to visit Cyprus for should pay for the test and tests should be done in the country of departure. Cyprus should not have to pay.

CityDoc provide a postal service for testing and will provide a certificate, this costs a total of £150.
In my case, I would be quite happy to pay the price, as it would mean that I can see my family again. The problem with it is the time factor, the whole process will probably exceed the 72hr limit.

Yes we'd pay if we could but.........although given the amount my missus spends in Homemarket, probably worth them subsidising our tests !!!

I would pay but as I fly out early morning on a Wednesday I can't get the test back in the allotted time. I could cheat the system and pretend I have symptoms and need to visit my 88year old Aunt who is shielding and need to check I am ok but somenow it doesn't seem right. Hopefully sorted by Sept.
