Unfortunately, loans have to be serviced, wages payed to employees etc etc, if there's no money in the pot, then what other option, do they or any other business owners have to stay in business ?

Yes, British Airways and RyanAir. My nephew is a pilot with BA and is also very worried at the prospect of losing his job. He has a wife and 3 young children.
It's because of the length of the lockdown. Airlines have huge expenses and need to keep their aircraft flying passengers to earn their keep.'

No-one would dispute this. But no point in carting millions of Covid carriers all over the globe. You have to suppress the infection before it's (reasonably) safe to start transporting passengers again.

And while it hurts at a family level, your nephew is just one of millions who may lose their jobs in the months ahead as a consequence of the UK government's tardy and inept handling of the Covid situation.

I observed to the wife just yesterday that while Cyprus will see job losses - particularly in the hospitality sector - they don't seem anything like as brutal or as spectacular as the numbers currently being touted in all kinds of industries in the UK.

Our company's experience of the Cyprus economy is that it is remarkably robust and far better than I was personally anticipating. There is still money moving around and all the tradesmen we work with are incredibly busy.

Yes, HIC, it goes without saying, I think, that there were and are few passengers traveling by air at present, especially with regard to the UK. The abysmal way the pandemic has been handled in the UK has led to the country being forced to stagnate, which is having a dire effect on both jobs and the economy there.
I feel dismayed by what is happening in the UK even now and the prospect of a weakened (financially) UK, leaving the EU in December with or without a deal is something else.
I'm glad that I am living here.
