Interested to know members thoughts on the following...
For years we have had Private Health Care ,and it has proved to be invaluable and reassuring, getting access to Health Care quickly with minimal fuss...
We now qualify for GESY as well but to date have had both options...
Now that GESY is now including inpatient care at a hospital of your choice ( within reason), my question is do we continue with Private Health Care as well?...

If money isnt an option, then stick with the private care, no waiting times , choice of Dr/ clincs etc etc

In my experience using the Gesy has been like private medical insurance

Certainly with Private health care you 'should' be able to have treatment sooner than using the Gesy system..
I am using the Gesy system to see a dermatologist at his own clinic rather than use the General Hospital
The first appointment I can get is mid July, but my problem is not urgent..

With respect Trev am more concerned with how quickly you could access GESY with a serious problem ie cancer Our Private Health Care is Inpatient only .... Outpatient cost was prohibitive with a small limit + excess....
I believe companies have to offer outpatient care, but in case it was an extra €600 for max €500 of cover! Strange but true. .

Hopefully someone using Gesy Cancer treatment at the moment will be able to quickly help with an answer for you..

I have a similar situation as others who have written that they have private health care. My renewal of the policy is due in a couple of months. I plan to talk to them about the merits of continuing my existing policy which covers inpatient , most operations,( I haven't needed anything major) so far. It also covers day case surgery too. But the real benefit is this company is also affiliated to PPP which provides private Inpatient treatment if I am in the UK. Also I don't as yet know if Gesy will provide treatment/hospitalisation without being on a waiting list? It has been good from previous experience of being a private patient to be able to choose the specialist, the hospital and the time of any treatment needed.Of course it also depends on whether the cost of my policy is still reasonable and affordible!

I think waiting lists will depend on which Hospital / doctor you use.. I am really only guessing, that the waiting list at the General will be longer than at a Private Hospital... I saw a Gesy private surgeon this morning about a possible minor op and was told he could do it tomorrow..

A friend of mine is currently undergoing chemotherapy at the Evangelismos under Gesy, as a day patient. Cost per session is in the region of €150 plus a bit extra for blood tests and meds (anti nausea, etc).
As a comparison, in 2017 while my late husband was undergoing chemotherapy at the brilliant Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre in Nicosia, costs covered by his Social Insurance payments, a friend of ours was also there, paying thousands per session then recouping most of the cost from their private health cover.

We are doing the same. We decided it was probably tempting fate to give it up too soon but as you say after 70 everything goes up yet they expect people to work longer. It’s time the 70yr barrier was changed.
