I grew up to the Damned's version of Eloise, which is fab.
But this is fab too:
I appreciate that some of you won't have heard the Damned's version, and only know the original, but there you go...

I remember this quite well, as the first song that I had heard in a different language from English. The original version was quite a hit when I was a teenager (before the word teenager existed!).

The first hit that I recall was "A Tisket A Tasket" which I have just found out was sung by Ella Fitzgerald. I certainly heard it many times before the 39 to 45 war. I don't think there is an actual recording of the original.
Another one I remember well was "Run, Rabbit, Run, Run, Run"
which was much parodied a couple of years later into "Run, Hitler, Run, Run, Run"

Sorry, but how is "Boy Meets Girl" an original? Rather, what I mean is, who has since covered it?

Earliest version I could find (covered by everyone from Johnny Cash to the Muppets):
Odd how a song about somebody getting dumped is considered a lullaby or a romantic song.
