PAPHOS MUNICIPALITY: Announcement of additional chlorine in water
Posted: Mon Mar 23, 2020 7:43 am
As part of the collective effort to protect against coronavirus and for purely preventive reasons, it has been considered appropriate to increase the chlorine in the water supply network of the Paphos area to a very small extent and within the permissible limit.
Although no water quality problem has been identified, this energy can have a positive effect while not creating any public health problems at all.
It is noted that chlorination of drinking water is a widely used method both at the global level and in Cyprus and is used in all water supply networks. According to the World Health Organization Guidelines, levels of free residual chlorine when there is no microbiological problem range from 0.1 to 0.3 ppm. Also according to the WHO, in the event of a microbiological problem it can be increased to 0.5 ppm to ensure that even the last house receiving water from the water supply system has at least 0.1 ppm.
It is reiterated that no problem arises from this small increase in chlorine, which moves strictly within the permitted limits. Both water quality and this measure will be assessed daily and adapted to the findings.
