A boat carrying around 100 migrants that was spotted approaching the coast of Cyprus, some 10 nautical miles off Cape Greco, on Friday was refused entry, police confirmed.

A police vessel, in line with the measures recently adopted by the government that restrict access to the country to safeguard citizens against the further spread of coronavirus, stopped the vessel before anyone could disembark.

The migrants were provided with essential food and water supplies, and with fuel as they were given instructions, with the help an interpreter, to change their course and set sail for another destination.

Hi Guys

So why not do this procedure in every case , and the message will soon get back not to waste their time
trying to get into Cyprus .
Not sure if you all agree , just my view

Cyprus has enough problems coping with Covid 19 cases as well as all the various people who are quarantined in various other accommodation. I can understand the Govt’s reaction.

Shame the UK doesn't adopt the same policy.

The problem is, the boat will just turn round and land on another part of the island, short of sinking it , how can any country stop these people, not forgetting they are brought here by organised people smugglers.

They made their way to the north of the island, after refusing the food and fuel from the Cy police.

I wonder if the police pointed out that the island was divided, and that they may be allowed in on the Northern Part ;-)

short of sinking it
and maybe therein lies both a short and long term solution and message.
Do you think that any civilised country would sink a boat filled with women and children on it?
