These are taking place in Rome today. I notice that the news channels (SKY, BBC News) are reporting that Mrs May
is not attending.
All other 27 EU leaders are.
Does anyone know if this is because she wasn't invited, or because she could have gone but decided not to?
Geoff.

At the end of the day, it's irrelevant who did what. Theresa May (on behalf of the UK) no longer wants to be part of the EU, so it would be pretty pointless attending. Even if she had gone she would have been 'Billy no mates"
OK, so you don't know the answer.
My view is this, if she COULD have gone but declined that would be up to her.
BUT if they blocked her then (1) it shows hostility towards the upcoming Brexit negotiations and (2) Bit of a cheek
as UK is fully paid up member of the EU for 2 more years!
So, does anyone on here know which it was?
Geoff.

The British prime minister was invited to join the celebrations on 25 March with 27 other EU leaders but decided not to take part, a senior EU diplomat told the Guardian. “The door was open, but the response was, ‘We don’t think it is appropriate for us,’” the diplomat said, summarising the UK response.

Thank you for that.
I don't blame her.
