Incoming Parcel

Good Day All

Can anyone advise or confirm the following .

We had a consignment sent from the USA , via USPS , and upon arrival goes through the Post Office , and when I went for collection they charged both VAT and Customs , which we knew and is acceptable .

However they charged on both the invoice value of the goods ( acceptable ) , but also added the cost of shipping , which I feel is wrong and disputed , however was told pay or leave we don’t care .

Who is right

Thanks

Les

They shouldn’t charge shipping. We’ve never been charged it. I would have asked to see somebody higher up.

when I have collected parcels from non european country from the PO, they have always done the calculation for VAT etc on the total cost including shipping, the same as uk businesses charge VAT on shipping when anything is purchased online.

I thought this was normal practice

Correct. Shipping is VATable service. Perhaps the VAT office has reprimanded the PO for not collecting the right amount in the past!

Agree last 3 posts. VAT is always charged on value of goods arriving and that includes transport costs, whether by post or courier.
