New rules on who can prescribe meds ?

I have seen this posted on Facebook , does anyone know if it is true ?
If you are on a medicine for a chronic illness ie COPD or heart disease , your GP cannot prescribe the specific medicines you need anymore. You have instead got to get a prescription from a specialist in that particular field sent to pharmacist.
This has changed from this month . Best if you are on a medicine for a chronic illness that you check this out well in advance to avoid running out of your meds .

Are you saying from this month you have to get a prescription from a specialist or you don't have to? MOH Cardiologist told us this last October and that is what has been happening since. The most recent was an appt last month for heart medication only. The rest was issued by the Doctor.

I collected my heart meds a few weeks ago on a prescription written by my GP . No questions asked by the pharmacist .
Hence my asking is the statement in green true ?

That's going to incur a €6 fee every time you want meds as opposed to free from your PD

Sent direct to pharmacist? Which one, and is it pharmacist specific? Does it mean "new" prescriptions or repeat ones? I smell a rat.

Perhaps to ensure a closer check on the need for certain prescriptions if a Specialist Doctor has to prescribe them and/or to adjust dosage accordingly.
I would rather see a Specialist Doctor each time I have a specific problem. Very impressed with the different Specialist Doctors I had to see last year and certainly very thorough. The Personal Doctor can see medical records so is always kept in the loop.

I assume the personal doctor can only see records from last June

Yes, detailed records since joining GESY last May, but on my first visit to the PD she entered my medical history, medications etc. onto the system, so it goes back several years.

Ah that is OK if you had, in the past an outside GP... If you had one at the hospital or in the village there will be no History

It would take many many hours to put all the history from my folder into a computer, including scanning all the graphs and echo gram pictures. I am not exaggerating when I say there will be 200 to 300 or more pages

I don't have any ECG or graphs on my GESY file, just the actual blood test results and x-ray reports. However, I was given the ECGs and x-rays to keep with my medical folder. So on GESY computer system only the major points are recorded and I have everything else in my file.

Good move in my opinion, specialised drugs should be prescribed by doctors who specialised in them, and the doctor sees what effects have on his patients on a daily basis, good or bad, .better for the patient .

Thanks both, I had my Turps operation and they sent me home from the Evangelismosh with a fitted Catheter, not nice but I am home, I did ask the question about Meds application to my Doc he looked bemused, he did say if you are on Gesy (GHS) as most of us are now all your details should be on computer no matter where you have treatment or surgery. Just one point most if not all surgery is not covered until June by GHS system, just in case you didn't know.
All doctors and GP will have the same access to info to what drugs and treatments you are on (he said), they certainly had mine.
