Good news! Glad that he is losing his license and is given a 40 day prison sentence. Wonder if this is the first time that the court has given this type of sentence for reckless or dangerous driving., It seems to me to be a little lenient considering the amount of risk that this stupid man caused to other drivers on this road. If he’d committed this offence in the UK for example, wonder what the his sentence would have been? But it’s a start here to discourage any potential lunatic drivers to think first before any copy cat risk taking activity while driving.

I have a friend in the UK who is a lawyer. Driving offences aren't his speciality but he might have an idea as to the possibility of a custodial sentence.

Maybe the custodial sentence was in lieu of him paying a substantial fine? Does anyone know!

From my legal friend in the UK:
https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/.. ... s-driving/
Deliberate disregard for safety of others - the guidelines suggest more than 6 months custody (the maximum that can be imposed in the Magistrates’ Court) and advise sending the matter up to the Crown Court...
Guidelines appear to suggest somewhere between 6 months and two years, then discounts of up to a third for an early guilty plea, plus further reductions for any mitigation put forward, such as short period of driving in this manner, one off incident, no accident or damage, loss of job where there is dependant family or the offender is a carer if an elderly relative...
There is no “absolute” answer...
It is a big mixing bowl where everything that is needed goes in, then a decision made...
A custodial sentence would be very likely, but the offenders circumstances could lead either for the custodial sentence to be suspended, or for a lower punishment...
