Road tax renewals begins January 9

The transport department has announced that motorists can renew their road tax from January 9 onwards, until March 11.

Failure to meet the deadline will entail a €10 fine plus 10 per cent of the amount due.

The tax can be paid through the web http://rtd.mcw.gov.cy, or at cooperative and commercial banks, citizen service centres, post offices, or at the road transport department.

A valid MOT certificate and insurance are necessary for renewal.

Police checks will begin on March 12.

People who do not wish to renew their road tax for 2017 must notify the transport department, either by submitting a certificate of destruction, obtainable from car recycling centres, or an immobilisation form, to avoid being fined.

The department urged motorists to renew their road permits early to avoid a system overload that could lead to delays and inconvenience.

Reminders will not be sent to registered car owners.

Thank you - our first time with this process so good to know.

Two months to pay 2017 Road Tax
December 28, 2016

The Transport Ministry announced Wednesday that motorists will be able to pay their road tax for 2017 as from January 9, 2017, and must be paid no later than Saturday, March 11, 2017.
Road tax can be renewed for a period of three, six, nine or 12 months at the following:
Road Transport Department (RTD) website at http://rtd.mcw.gov.cy
Cooperative Banks
Commercial banks
Citizens Service Centres (CSC)
District Post Offices
Road Transport Department District Offices.
In order for road tax to be renewed, cars must be insured and have a valid MOT certificate.
Road taxes renewed after March 11, 2017, will be levied with an additional €10 and 10% of the road tax applicable for the whole year
Police and RTD officials will conduct inspections as from Sunday, March 12, 2017, and drivers caught with unpaid road tax will be charged.
Exemption from paying road tax for 2017 can only be done by submitting an application for vehicle immobilisation (Form TOM12) to the RTD or (Form TOM98) for vehicles that have been destroyed along with a certificate of destruction by a registered scrap yard.

Why drive down to Geroskipou or Paphos when there is a perfectly good MOT centre in Polemi run by Philippos Philippou, a nice guy who speaks reasonable English. His centre is very new, computer linked to the government offices and he charges the going rate - just make sure to tell him you live in Polemi! :D

Philipos is excellent, MOT are a fixed price but service /oil changes are very well priced, and if you live in Polemi, it's probably withing walking distance rather than having to hang around or rely on a lift from someone. Or you could come for a browse in the village charity shop!

Got my Road tax at 08.30 this morning at bank.
Only need log book, nothing else.
The teller said I was probably the first in Cyprus to do so.

I doubt it. Look at the number on the tax disc, which will be something like 17001600
Mine were that one and the other 17001599
So 1598 people had renewed before my 2.
What number is on your's?
The first one to renew would have been xxxx0001
I renewed my two at 06.30 this morning online.

Okay so I have tried to tax the cars on JCC smart, been a user on there for some time but first time renewing car tax.

It keeps saying INVALID VEHICLE/OWNERS REF. NUMBER COMBINATION. PLEASE TRY AGAIN

I have tried both my passport and yellow slip numbers, any ideas folks?

From another forum ....
David wrote: It's not particularly intuitive, but the number JCC are usually looking for online is the last 3 digits at section c9 of your car registration document (before any forward slash /).
