Does anyone know the position regarding importing a hybrid vehicle from the UK after “ brexit day” on 31/1/2020.
As the vehicle was registered and taxes paid in what was an EU country (UK) previous to brexit day is it liable for import taxes if imported in Feb etc?

See details in the attached link for vehicles imported from either an EU or non EU country.

https://www.mof.gov.cy/mof/customs/cust ... n/ced07_en

If the car is classed as coming from non EU country, para A states the vehicle will be liable for excise duty AND VAT. If coming from an EU country, VAT will only be payable if the vehicle is classed as new, which they define as less than 6 months old AND less than 6,000km. Depending on personal circumstances there may be an option to avoid the fees by claiming for relief under the transfer of normal residence procedure, which is also detailed in through the link above.

I believe there has in the past been some tolerance depending on whether there vehicle is in transit before a deadline such as 31 Jan, e.g. when excise rates changed in the past, but I have no written evidence of that so may well just be hearsay.

Perhaps best to speak to someone who does this sort of thing regularly e.g Alison at ANW Cars in Tremithousa, 26 652661 who we used for one of our cars.
