ARE YOU a Brit living abroad but apoplectic with rage about foreigners living in the UK? Here’s how to convince yourself there’s a difference.

I guess if someone is Dark skinned you class them as an immigrant, but if your white you class yourself as an expat

I regard myself as both an expat and an immigrant
Those of us who arrived pre MEU1/3, and pre pink slip and have a brown book are also aliens!

When I worked abroad on short term contracts I classed myself as an Expat as my point of origin was still the UK. Moving to Cyprus I class myself as an Immigrant.

I´d say an immigrant is someone who has settled in their new country for good whereas an expat might (or will) move on (or back). Not sure which group I belong to.

I think your reply answers the question in a nut shell.

I think of myself as an expat, though like many others I was also classed as an alien by virtue of possessing ‘the little brown Alien Book’. Since then I’ve assembled a collection of pink and yellow slips, and also have a Cyprus ID card. But I might move on or back in the future. Still undecided.

Hi, can you tell me how to get a Cyprus Id card, cos ours expired some time ago, and we now have the meu3 bits of paper which are not so easily transportable
Cheers
I think ID cards are only issued to Cypriot citizens now.

Some UK expats were issued with I D cards back in the day, why the authorities stopped them, I'm not sure, one of the forum members might give us the answer.

I don't know why they stopped issuing them. I have one and it is accepted everywhere I need ID
