I was surprised to see the boat at Latchi harbour being dismantled today. It seems to have been there forever!
The engine has been put on blocks next to it. Perhaps it's being preserved?

I have taken photos of that trawler on and off since 2006 and have noticed each time I have visited Latchi how dilapidated it was getting. I think it looks more like it is being dismantled to be scrapped instead of being restored, but time will tell I guess.

Although it's not clear on these photos, the planks on the hull have all been labelled, which makes me think that it is going to be put back together at some point. There's certainly a lot of rotten and rusty stuff at the side of it. I think originally it was going to be sunk out at sea for divers.

I popped over on yesterday to have a look at whats going on.....I always make a point of having a look and maybe take a photo or two every time I'm in Latchi, and noticed a group of people who were from the Cyprus Institute (it was on the side of their truck) who were recording and photographing various parts of the ship. I've found this article from their website which members may find of interest......

Seems parts of the boat are going to be preserved for further study, and other bits and pieces to be reused as material for arts and crafts.

Thank you for that CyprusSue.
That's really interesting and it's good to know it is not just being destroyed.

They are also offering parts of the boat as souvenirs if anyone wants a piece.
