Jim many would like to be able to play any instrument to perfection but most of us can't. I find new & interesting music from members on the forums Song Chain

Found this the other day, absolutely stunning.
Never heard the Last Post on guitar before.

We have seen three different styles of playing the guitar & opinions differ. Mine was from many years ago, Austin more recent & perhaps Dominics is the most up to date & I'm sure a poll would show my choice is least entertaining but I will stick to what I like & hope you guys just go on & enjoy your music Don't forget the Ladies can play as well as or better then men

The Toy Dolls are currently doing their 40th Anniversary tour so that clip might not be as recent as you think.

I do find fascinating what different people class as music though. Trout Mask Replica is a classic example of that. I find it impenetrable, but John Peel raved over it, calling it the closest thing to a work of art that the music industry has ever produced. I guess when you understand that the musicians actually meant to play like that it can make a bit more creative sense, but it is still a hard album to listen to.

And don't worry, I won't be posting any of the songs on Song Chain.

I am sure the small team of members on the Song Chain will appreciate that Dominic but I would hate differences of opinions prevent anyone posting what they like................ As long as it follows the rules

I actually read an interesting article about the Shaggs the other week. I don't know if I've posted any of their stuff on Song Chain but it is really, really bad. The band consisted of three girls. Their father had a palm reading from his Mum that gave three predictions:

1. He would marry a strawberry blond haired woman.
2. Two of his daughters would be born after she died.
3. His daughters would form a band.

The first two predictions came true, so the Dad decided to make sure the third prediction happened as well. He took them out of school, bought them musical instruments, and got them to make a record.

The results are painful to listen to. However, it has not stopped the likes of Frank Zappa and Kurt Cobain from singing their praises. And they even had a reunion, and beefed up their band with some more musicians. The weird thing is though, that, according to the musicians, the Shaggs got them to play exactly what they wanted them to, and they sounded like the original recordings. So the album didn't sound like that because of random inexperience, they knew exactly what they wanted to achieve.

I think I can understand why other musicians might find their music appealing, and the same goes for Trout Mask Replica. There must be so much creative overlap and repetition in music, that anything that goes against that would seem like a breath of fresh air, no matter how weird it sounds to us mere mortals.

Referring to Jims post I have an acoustic guitar & I have found it the most difficult instrument I have tried to learn so will leave it to those who have mastered it & just sit back & enjoy Not your scene Dominic but we always look forward to your ideas on the Song Chain

Why do you think that sort of song isn't my scene? I love anything by George Harrison.

Good question. Sometimes I think inside the box but have noticed at times you think outside & come up with a song like this viewtopic.php?f=24&t=541&start=1820 but if you like music you will find it

Sometimes it isn't about the song, it is about people's reaction to it.

Good music will be found in all genres. I have seen Segovia live, he was exceptional. I also love Trout Mask Replica (have it in the car).

But if you want to be completely blown away, dip into the contemporary folk scene. There is some amazing stuff there.
